Caption Monica Khanna, from SpiceJet Airlines, performed an emergency landing of SpiceJet’s Boeing 737 plane with 185 passengers on it. The plane was traveling between Patna and Delhi when one of its engines caught fire after being hit by a bird.
Monica took the required decision on time and succeeded in saving the life of all the 185 passengers on the plane. She turned off the engine that caught fire and safely landed the plane at Patna airport.
This rescue operation was performed collectively by Monica and First officer Balpreet Singh Bhatia.
Pilots handled the situation well. Only single engine was functioning when plane landed back. Engineers inspected the aircraft, it was confirmed that fan blade & engine were damaged as a bird hit it.
